Finding Rest in Jesus

Finding Rest in Jesus

In today's fast-paced world, finding rest seems like an elusive dream. We're constantly bombarded with demands, responsibilities, and distractions that leave us feeling exhausted and drained.

But amidst the chaos, Jesus offers us a path to true rest. Let's explore how we can find rest in Him through the example set in Mark 6:31 - Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

1. Recognising the Need for Rest:

The disciples, after their mission trip, were physically and emotionally exhausted. Despite their zeal for ministry, they were running on empty, with no time even to eat. Similarly, we often find ourselves stretched thin, worn out by the demands of life.

2. Jesus' Invitation to Rest:

Jesus, seeing the disciples' fatigue, extended a compassionate invitation: "Come with me to a quiet place and get some rest." His concern wasn't just physical but also spiritual and emotional. Jesus knew the importance of solitude and renewal in the midst of busyness.

3. Retreat with Jesus:

The disciples didn't escape to a luxurious vacation spot but withdrew to a quiet place with Jesus. In our quest for rest, we must ensure that Jesus is at the centre of it all. Silence and solitude in His presence provide the nourishment our souls desperately need.

4. Avoiding False Forms of Rest:

Often, our attempts at rest only leave us feeling more exhausted. We chase after fleeting pleasures, thinking they'll rejuvenate us, only to find ourselves more drained. True rest isn't found in temporary escapes but in the enduring presence of Jesus.

5. Embracing True Rest:

Jesus invites us to lay down our burdens and find rest for our souls (Matthew 11:28-30). This rest isn't just about physical relaxation but about finding peace and restoration in Him. When we prioritize time with Jesus, we discover a deep sense of fulfillment and refreshment.

As followers of Christ, we're called to live lives of balance and rhythm, knowing when to engage in ministry and when to retreat and rest in Jesus. Let's heed His invitation to come away with Him, finding true rest for our weary souls. May we prioritize silence and solitude in His presence, allowing Him to replenish us so that we can continue to serve Him faithfully.
