Thoughts & Reflections
Reflect and Journal
- By Ho Wan Leng
In this fast-paced world filled with distractions, it is easy to get distracted without taking the time to pause and reflect on where we've been and where we're going.
Reflection is a spiritual practice that allows us to examine our thoughts, emotions, and experiences. It is about taking a step back from the busyness of life and turning our attention inward, towards the still, small voice of God that speaks to us in the depths of our souls.
When we reflect on our lives, we become attuned to the ways in which God is working in and through us, even during life's challenges and uncertainties. Through reflection, we gain clarity, insight, and wisdom that can guide us on our spiritual journey.
But reflection alone is not enough. We must also capture our thoughts and experiences in a tangible way, and that's where journaling comes in. Journaling is a spiritual practice of documenting our reflections, prayers, and encounters with God. It is a way of recording the still small voice of God within us.
In the Bible, we see countless examples of reflection and journaling. The psalmist poured out his hearts to God in Psalms, expressing both his joys and his sorrows. Jesus himself withdrew to solitary places to pray and reflect, seeking guidance and strength from his heavenly Father.
So how can we incorporate reflection and journaling into our own spiritual lives? Start by setting aside dedicated time each day for quiet reflection and journaling. Find a quiet space where we can be alone with God, free from distractions. Ask God to guide our thoughts and reveal His truth to us as we reflect on our day, our emotions, and our relationship with Him.
As we journal, we pour out our hearts to God without reservation. Write down our prayers, our praises, our struggles, and our triumphs. Be honest and vulnerable before God, knowing that He sees us and loves us just as we are.
As we reflect, let our thoughts lead us to thanksgiving. Let us pause to give thanks for the blessings that we often take for granted: the gift of life, the love of family and friends, the beauty of creation that surrounds us.
Let us give thanks for the small miracles that happen each day, the moments of grace that remind us of God's unfailing love.
And as we express our gratitude, let it leads us back to His grace. For it is through His grace that we have been saved, redeemed, and made whole. It is through His grace that we can experience joy during sorrow, peace during chaos, and hope during despair.
And let us commit ourselves to living lives that reflect the love and grace that we have received, sharing God's goodness with all those we encounter.
May our reflection lead us to respond,
May our thinking lead us to thanking,
And may our gratitude lead us ever closer to His grace.
